Best Plants for Bathrooms

Houseplants not only bring a calm vibe, but they also add a dash of colour and texture to the interiors of a home. And generally, plants are useful. Some are decorative, some are great mosquito repellents and some species even absorb harmful chemicals from the air. Plus, indoor plants are a great way to transform a space.

We have earlier discussed best plants to grow indoorsbest plants to grow in a balcony and climbing plants that are great for balconies and gardens. In this story, I’ll be introducing some houseplants that are great to have in the bathroom. They not only to soften the space otherwise defined by tiled surfaces, but also uplift the overall decor. However, one should bring in plants that do well in the fluctuating atmosphere of a bathroom. Here are a few that can.

  1. Aloe vera (Aloe vera)

The aloe vera is a hardy succulent and a popular houseplant. While its distinct shape adds interest, this plant’s small footprint lets you add greenery to tiny bathrooms as well. You can plant it in small pots and place them on the window sill, on the vanity counter, over any open shelf or on the cistern too.

Care tips: Aloe vera prefers indirect sunlight and does not need daily watering. Water only when the soil looks dry; the humid surroundings of the bathroom can support its growth to a high extent.

  1. Boston fern (Nephrolepis exaltata)

If you wish to have a more lush and bushy output (and you have the space), a Boston fern is the right plant for you. It is a forgiving and adaptable indoor plant. The fountain-like spread of this houseplant can shine in hanging pots, planter stands and large floor pots equally well.

Care tips: Boston fern flourishes in shade and high humidity. It does not require direct sunlight. Keep the soil gently moist by watering regularly.

  1. Snake plant (Sansevieria trifasciata)

Since the snake plant grows upwards rather than outwards, it can bring life into the bathroom without taking up too much space. It is not only pretty to look at, but is a natural air purifier as well. On top of that, this houseplant does not ask for a lot of care to stay green.

Care tips: Snake plant can comfortably survive under low and indirect sunlight. It does not need daily watering; water only when the soil is completely dry.

  1. Areca palm (Dypsis lutescens)

An areca palm invites attention, but only visual. This plant grows to be relatively larger than the others listed here. However, it is structural and easy to care for. Allow this plant its own designated space in your bathroom by the shower, bathtub or the vanity.

Care tips: The areca palm prefers a moist habitat and indirect sunlight, although it copes well in low-light and high-humidity conditions. Use well-drained soil and water regularly.

  1. Chinese evergreens (Aglaonema genus)

Chinese evergreens are low-maintenance perennials native to the tropical and subtropical regions. This bushy plant features standout leaves variegated with white, silver or pink streaks. You can place the baby plants high on top of shelves or over the vanity counter. But when they start to outgrow this, shift the plant to a larger pot and move it to the floor.

Care tips: Provide this slow-growing plant with a well-drainingsoil and medium-to-low light conditions. While it loves humidity, it also does well in dry surroundings.

  1. Money plant (Epipremnum aureum).

This evergreen climber is another famous, no-sweat houseplant that needs either a soil or a water medium to grow. You can set up your money plant in hanging baskets, train it to climb unsightly pipes or let it trail down from a high shelf or the window sill. Hence, it is particularly great for small bathrooms.

Care tips: The money plant thrives in both low and bright indirect light conditions. It prefers a cool and moderately humid environment, similar to that of most bathrooms
