Sari has always been a classic in an Indian woman’s wardrobe. Styles and fabrics may change but the outfit outruns years. The trends for saris in 2022 are an extension of what we saw in 2021.

The glitter-glam sari with metallic sheen and finish will be a favourite choice for parties and cocktails.
Experimenting with drapes such as dhoti or double sari with Indian traditional crafts will be in trend. Light printed Ajrakh and indigo dyed saris in modal with contemporary prints and styles will be a statement for everyday wear and light occasions.

Saris can be paired with different styles of blouses like shirt blouses or tops with varying lengths to break the monotony and accessorize with funky and junk jewellery. Especially after the pandemic where comfort has taken a front seat, comfortable blouses and drapes with lighter weight fabrics are a priority for most women.

Saris with belts and cummerbunds are too much in trend as they enhance the shape of the body. Embroidered belts complementing the embroidery of the sari or plain leather or fabric belts with a bold motif in the middle on a plain or printed sari will look gorgeous and enhance the appearance without much effort.

Drape saris in Satin or Banarasi fabrics with ruffles and sharp cut blouses are in demand and can be seen rising in the year 2022. Playful sleeves and big layered ruffles with belts and embroidery make a likeable choice for many occasions for the bride and the bridesmaids as well.

As we talk of colours, colour blocking and geometry go hand in hand when it comes to aesthetics. Saris with colour blocking are unique in themselves and they can be worn with multiple blouse choices.
Saris in tissues and organzas are an apt choice for summers when the look needs to be festive, grand and chic. With embroidery, printed or soaked in Indian weaves, these fabrics never fail the vibe of the occasion.

Saris without borders and thin borders are also trending as they give an illusion of length and save from a bulky look. If one wants to go for a lighter look, borderless Kanjeevarams and Bandhani saris serve the look without stealing the grandeur of the occasion’s need.

Printed, embroidered or applique saris with placement pattern and motifs with design placed on focal points of the saris are also emerging as fancied looks with plain fabric serving the length. They have a uniqueness in themselves. Kalamkari on Paithani, Chikankari on kanchipuram, Kalamkari on Patan Patola, Ikat with Paithani borders and many more will continue to arouse interest in sari lovers. We have seen a lot of interest in these fusions as many want to wear something new. However, the interest for classics would never go out of style and they are evergreen such as oosi Kanchipurams, Rangkat banarasis, Mor bangdi paithanis or Navratna Patan Patolas.
