Fabrics that you should never wear in summer

FT NEWS

In summer we have this tendency to sweat profusely and our garment should be more comforting and airy. A lot of times we pick up the wrong fabric to wear in this hot, sultry weather and cause discomfort to ourselves. Here are five fabrics that you should stay away from this season.

Silk or satin

Avoid wearing silk and satin fabric during the day. Keep it for evening soirees or cocktail parties. Silks aren’t a good absorbent as compared to cotton and therefore wearing it on a hot, summery day will leave you all sweaty.

Polyester

The fabric got popular because it is wrinkle and damage resistant. But wearing a polyester shirt or dress in summer can leave you with sweat patches since polyester is also water-resistant and doesn't absorb sweat at all.

Denim
While a lot of us are still spotted in our denim jeans in this hot weather, it is advisable to ditch denims in summer. They are neither breathable nor stretchy. This fabric can't stop you from sweating since it will make you feel hotter and your day would be spent in utter discomfort.

Velvets
Velvet is not suitable for the Indian climes in summer. They are thick and heavy, and also have this tendency of getting warmer with time. We are often intrigued by the lushness of the fabric and want to wear it for parties in summer. But you would be making the biggest mistake if you think of wearing a velvet dress in summer.

Lace and net

They might look airy but they cause itchiness and redness to the skin because they are made of synthetic fabric. It is advisable that you avoid wearing synthetic fabric in summer because it will give less comfort and more pain.
